Flourishing Friends: The Essential Nest

This is a sponsored post. The Essential Nest provided products free for review, but all opinions are my own.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I love supporting independent businesses.

I especially love supporting independent businesses that are run by women. After all, it’s a sisterhood.

Lately, I have been privileged to work with a few women who are near and dear to me. Last week I brought you a great guest post (and giveaway) about my cousin’s new ItWorks! business and this week I want to share with you my friend Jen’s Essential Oils etsy shop, The Essential Nest.

Recently is seems like essential oils are suddenly becoming all the rage. People are diffusing them, mixing them with lotion, cleaning with them, and even adding them to their drinks. I was curious. I was raised in a house where if something was wrong you took a pill. Seriously, my mom passed out ibuprofen like they were candy. She hated to see someone suffer if there was a solution. It never really crossed my mind that it could be any other way.

I was really excited when I had the opportunity to try and review The Essential Nest’s products. Currently The Essential Nest offers a variety of products from rollerballs to sprays that range in price from $12.99 – $18.99. Her products cover everything from anti-aging to yoga mat cleaning to headache curing to flea and tick protection. Jen is constantly working on adding new products to her shop and is looking to add men’s products and even takes special orders.

Jen and I chatted about what would be best for me and we decided that I should try Ease Up (for headache relief) and Just Breathe (respiratory blend).

Ease Up

The Essential Nest’s Ease Up is made of a blend of pure lavender oil, pure peppermint oil, and pure sweet almond oil and I find it very relaxing.

I had an operation a few years ago that leaves me prone to getting some pretty bad headaches and over the past year they have been a little crazy. I have been working to get my beauty sleep and up my water and protein intake, but sometimes I just have to have some outside assistance!

Over the past 2 weeks since receiving this rollerball I have barely had a headache that this couldn’t cure! As soon as I feel the pain starting (usually behind my eyes) I just roll on this oil blend on to my forehead and inhale deeply. It has quickly taken away all of the little pains, but I do still have to bust out the medicine cabinet for my major aches and pains.

The other blend that Jen thought would be good for me to try is the Just Breathe blend. This oil is a mixture of lemon essential oil, peppermint essential oil, tea tree essential oil, ravensara essential oil, eucalyptus essential oil, laurel leaf essential oil, and pure sweet almond oil and it has worked wonders.

At first I was a little hesitant about whether I would have a chance to use this oil because no one in my house was really stuffed up when I got it, but low and behold Kid #1 started getting a runny nose right on cue. Kids are trained so well.

To help relieve his faucet of a nose I made a mixture of coconut oil and the Just Breathe blend to rub on his chest. I cannot even explain how awesome it has worked! For close to 24 hours (or until his next shower) I am not surrounded by sniffles and half used tissues!

1) Add a tiny scoop of coconut oil to a microwave safe cup. I used an old baby spoon that we had laying around. I pop this in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds to melt it without making it too hot. To be honest, this amount is actually a little more than needed.

2) Add your drops of essential oil. Remember 1-2 drops for a kids’ mixture and 3-5 drops for adults’ mixture. After adding the oil give it a little stir.

3) Rub gently only the stuffed up person’s chest. I would show you a picture of this, but Kid #1 said the picture could be embarrassing and asked me not to post it. Apparently 7 is when you start being embarrassed.
